The Under 13's entered 2 teams at this years Thorncliffe tournament and managed to come away with the winners trophies.
The squads had very different experiences of the day, being put into opposing groups. The B squad made the knock-out phase with the A squad unfortunately didn't quite manage to extricate themselves from the group phase.
In the semi-finals the Belles, as B group winners, played Hallam Rangers, the runners up of Group A, while the other semi-final saw two Steel City squads battling one-another. The match went to a penalty shoot out, which the girls won setting up a final showdown with steel City Wanderers. The final also went down to the wire although in open play the Belles had managed the better chances but found the Steel City keeper somehow managed to be in the right place at the crucial moments to deny scoring chances. The penalty shoot out was to sort out both teams though as Steel City failed to score, leaving the Belles to take the trophy with the final penalty kick of the showdown. A great performance from all of the girls, who didn't concede a goal in open play and only conceded one in penalty shoot outs throughout the day.
The day was marred by a couple of apparently serious injuries to girls from other teams, notably Dronfield (collar bone/shoulder) and Steel City (wrist)... everybody at the Belles hopes that the injuries are not as serious as first thought and that the players concerned are back in action quickly.
