Belles Achievements & Honours
The Doncaster Belles have been consistently ahead of the rest since
they were formed in 1969 by a group of women in Doncaster who sold "Golden
Goal" tickets for a Doncaster Rovers FC promotion. Over the years
the team has won numerous trophies for five-a-side, six-a-side and eleven-a-side
tournaments. The Belles first ever trophy was in a five-a-side game
for the National Market Traders Association which they won successively
from 1972-76.
In 1975-76, the Belles won the Red
Cross Cup in an eleven-a-side Trophy tournament, since then their achievements
included: their first League title (against Notts) in 1975-76, won the
WFA Cup in 1983 and became the first ever Yorkshire team in history
to achieve such glory.
The Belles represented England in Holland
for the European Cup Championships in 1983, and took on teams from Belgium,
Denmark, Italy, Germany, and host nation Holland.
The WFA nominated the Belles for the
Yorkshire Post/Sports Council Sports Achievements Awards in 1982/83
and 1987/88.
