DONCASTER Rovers Belles boss John Buckley hailed a true team effort after his side began their Womens Super League campaign with a 1-0 victory at Lincoln Ladies.
Vicky Exley scored the only goal of the game on the stroke of half-time when she fired home Precious Hamilton’s cross.
After a nervy first-half display in front of a crowd of almost 750 at Sincil Bank, Lincoln went on to dominate the second period, but failed to find an equaliser.
“I’m delighted with the result,” declared Buckley. “I know it’s a cliché, but it was a game of two halves.
“We played ever so well in the first half. I’m reluctant to name individuals because I thought it was a real group effort.
“Vicky Exley, that’s what she does. It’s not something that just happens. She has that knack of being in the right position at the right time. She’s been doing it for years. But the whole squad was outstanding.
“Not many teams will come to Lincoln and pick up points because they are well organised and have got good quality players.”
