O'Gorman Back To Lead Belles Attack

Doncaster Rovers’ Belles striker Aine O’Gorman is set to return to lead the attack in tomorrow night’s FA Women’s Super League (WSL) clash at Lincoln Ladies.

The 23-year-old Republic of Ireland international has just returned from international duty suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat in Switzerland.

The former Peamount United star joined John Buckley’s side at the start of last season and quickly proved a crowd favourite.

“The strength of the womens’ game in the Republic is getting a lot better but it is obviously a lot higher over here,” she told The Star.

“It was a step up in class but I felt that I did okay - though I would like to have scored a few more than the four goals I did.”

Like the rest of her team-mates, the pacy O’Gorman was excited by the club’s capture of veteran England star Sue Smith, during the close season.

“I was really looking forward to playing with Sue and it was a big loss when she was injured so early in the season,” she said. “Hopefully she’ll get herself fit and be ready for the start of next season.”

Tomorrow sees the Keepmoat Stadium side play its first game since the announcement of a six-figure sponsorship deal with Innovation Financial Services Limited, and everyone connected with the Belles is hoping to start, what promises to be an exciting new era for the club, by getting off the mark in the WSL after three defeats.

“We played well in our last game at Bristol and we were unlucky to lose 3-2,” said O’Gorman, joined at the club by another former Peamount favourite, Julie-Ann Russell, this season.

“We created more chances than we had been doing and we’ll be looking to convert more of them and looking to build on the performance at Lincoln.”
