Doncaster Rovers Belles are delighted to announce the signing of 22 year old defender Emma Thomson from the Boston Breakers.
Emma is a former Belle and made her debut aged just 16 against Arsenal where she was tasked with marking England international winger Rachel Yankey. She did very well for the club and the following season was indeed named Young Player of the Year in 2007.
The young defender then moved to the USA to join Penn State University. Emma had a very successful college career, spending four years there winning various awards including being selected in the All-Big Ten Second Team (2010, 2011), Academic All-Big Ten (2009, 2010), All-Big Ten Freshman (2008), Soccer Buzz Fourth Team Freshman All-American (2008) and Soccer Buzz Freshman Team All-Great Lakes (2008).
Emma earlier this year joined Boston where they won the WPSL Elite League last month before being knocked out in the semi-final play off against the Chicago Red Stars.
Assistant Manager Paul Green "Emma is a very good player and we are delighted that she has re-joined the club. She is a versatile defender who can play anywhere across the back four and will now give us good competition for places in that area.
"Her form in the USA has been outstanding and she's just off the back of winning the WPSL Elite League. So, we hope she can continue that sort of form now back at the Belles.
"Emma has been in past young England squad's and we feel now she's back in the UK she can look to push on and become a regular in the Under 23's."
