UPDATE: chairlady Faye Lygo's latest
On our delayed start to the season, rearranged fixtures, Sue Smith and competitions
Well I was going to fill this blog with our first two games of the Spring Series, but unfortunately, as you are very aware, I can’t!!
The cancellation of the Watford game was disappointing for a number of reasons; the obvious one being that we all wanted to see the team out on the pitch! In addition, Rossington FC were extremely helpful and accommodating and it felt like we were letting them down. I personally wanted to see how the ground worked out, as under the FA WSL Licence rules we must have a second match pitch, in the event of Keepmoat fixtures clashes or other such unavailability.
Moving on to the Sheffield match: when the Sheffield’s men’s game was cancelled on the Saturday and a none-too-positive overnight weather forecast was given on the Saturday, we knew there was a strong possibility of cancellation. Unfortunately until the referee inspects the pitch just before kick off, everyone must continue to plan for it going ahead. Luckily the referee was able to inspect quite early, so we were able to announce the cancellation in equally good time.
Then with our cup game against Sheffield scheduled for Sunday, we have had to postpone our home game against Aston Villa on Saturday, as we can’t play two competitive matches that closely together. It is too early to get dates on the two re-arranged league games, but we will let you know as soon as possible.
Players news – I was very sad to hear from Sue that she would not be continuing with the Belles this season and she will be greatly missed by fans and colleagues alike. With Sue’s blossoming media career, combined with her re-location to be nearer family, the Belles became one thing too many. However, she has assured me that she will come to as many fixtures as she is able to and I know I look forward to seeing her. We will also be celebrating Sue and would ask you to look out for this!
Where, you may ask, are the monthly competitions? Well the next one will be in our Monthly Newsletter - you can sign up using the form below!
